About

Currently a 6th grade history teacher at Fred Lynn Middle School–home of the Relentless Skateboarding Tattooed Principal!!! YES! He is as awesome as his videos and book!

This is my 25th year teaching. After graduating from Kubasaki High School in Okinawa Japan, I earned my undergraduate degree in Political Science at Mary Washington College and my Masters in Education Professionalism at George Mason University. I was National Certified in Early Adolescent Language Arts from 1999-2009 but did not apply for re-certification due to a break in teaching to stay home with my elementary aged children.

I’ve began my teaching career at Prince William County Schools, teaching at the alternative middle school–New Dominion. After staying home with the kids, I taught US History, AP US History, Sociology and Psychology at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia.

In 2016, I looked for a break from standardized testing and high school drama and made the switch back to middle school (Fred Lynn Middle School) where I have one prep, 2 hours of planning daily, and no standardized tests.

This class, the course this blog is based on, meets that last requirements for me to upgrade my teaching licence to MA +30. My +30 credits run the gamut from a hodgepodge of undergraduate classes at Northern Virginia Community College, and graduate course work at GMU and Old Dominion University. I’m not sure what courses I will take in the future but if I do it will be unrelated to classroom instruction.
